Co-owner of Health Care Plus, LLC, Orian P. Motley, is from Charleston, South Carolina. Orian’s family traveled during the years prior to her entering high school, due to her father’s teaching assignments. They lived in Liberia, West Africa, and traveled throughout Europe.
She attended High School in Tuskegee, Alabama. And began her college career at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC and majored in Social Studies – Teaching Option. One summer she took a job, at the New York Hospital, NY, as a Nursing Assistant (the hospital provided the training). During that summer she gained an appreciation for providing care for others, she felt she that she found the type of work she enjoyed. During the next school year she worked part-time in a nursing home near her college campus. By the end of that semester, she was sure that she wanted to be a nurse.
Orian attained an Associate Degree in Nursing from Columbus College, Columbus, Georgia in 1975. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 1977, and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with emphasis on Nursing Education, in 1979; both from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia. During her entire nursing educational pursuit Orian worked as a Nursing Assistant until she obtained her Registered Nurse’s (RN) License and full time as an RN while studying for both her BSN and MSN degrees.
Orian was sworn into the U.S. Army Nurse Corp in January 1979, and pinned with Captain bars by her only son, Gregory Washington. She had a very fruitful career and retired as a Lieutenant Clonel.
During the 30 plus years of continuous nursing experience, Orian has provided nursing care in a variety of areas and settings. She has worked and is proficient in cardiac care, medical and surgical intensive care, labor and delivery, medical and surgical in-patient care, and hospital nursing supervision. While in the Army she held positions as Division Nursing Supervisory (responsible for 21 outpatient clinics throughout the DMZ in Korea), Chief Nurse of a 400 bed Field Hospital, multiple assignments as Chief Nursing Education and Training, Head Nurse of the Emergency Room, Labor and Delivery, New Born Nursery, and GYN/Post Partum. In her last assignment she was responsible for the development, acquisition, and standardization of medical equipment for the Joint (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corp) Services. During one assignment she obtained a part-time position as an Associate Professor of Nursing at a Junior College.
Since her retirement from the Army, Orian has held positions as nursing supervisor, and Nurse Manager, of a medical ward, labor/delivery, and nursery at Oconee Regional Medical Center. She was a Home Health Agency Nurse Surveyor for the State of Georgia, the Director of Nursing of a small community hospital, she acted as a Nurse Consultant for Accreditation and Regulatory concerns for Nursing Homes and Hospitals. Orian was also the Clinical Director of Oconee Regional Medical Center’s Hospice (in home hospice).
Orian and her husband moved to Greensboro, Georgia in 1995, and enjoy the beautiful lake area. They are active members of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, in Greensboro. She has participated in medical missions to the Dominican Republic. Orian is also the President of the Lake Oconee Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (a public service sorority).
