| Excess Midsection Fat = Big Risk! |
|
Obesity is a major health crisis in the US. About 66% of US of US adults are overweight or obese, and that figure has been raised dramatically. Americans are becoming obese at an epidemic rate, according to the CDC. Obesity is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, stroke, Type 2 Diabetes, and other serious illnesses.
Obesity means that the body contains too much fat. There are many kinds of fat, and fat is stored throughout your body. But not all fat presents the same risk of serious disease. Having excess midsection fat – specifically, the fat stored in your waistline – increases your risk for heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Having fat around
your waistline can be more harmful that fat found elsewhere on your body.
Researcher point out that the fatty tissue in the abdomen can make and release potentially harmful substances that interfere with the normal functioning of your organs. One of these substances is free fatty acids, they can raise your triglyceride and blood sugar levels, which are risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Weight related health risks are serious problems. Talk to your healthcare professional about your risk factors and determine what you can do about the risk.
